Scientific Program
The scientific program will cover a broad variety of aspects related to volcanic risk management at oceanic island volcanoes and also several issues about favorable perspectives in living on active volcanoes. Main topics will be included, such us:
- Island and submarine volcanism;
- Volcano monitoring;
- Volcanic island hazards;
- Volcanic island emergency plans;
- Education and outreach for reducing volcanic risk;
- Communication & volcanic risk management;
- Volcano island ecosystems;
- Volcano tourism, geological heritage and geoparks;
- Volcanic islands, energy & water resources;
- The 2014-15 Fogo eruption.
Presentation
1st Conference of the 2014-15 Fogo eruption, Cabo VerdeThe “2015 Fogo Conference” is an international meeting on Oceanic Island Volcanoes & Society for commemorating the 1st anniversary of the 2014-15 Fogo eruption.
Scientific and technical discussions will be related to the volcanic risk management on oceanic and active island volcanoes as well as to enhance the know-how exchange to better understand and improve the multi-disciplinary initiatives in reducing volcanic risk in islands.
A special session on the international conference will be related to the 2014-2015 Fogo eruption and its impact on the island community. The “2015 Fogo Conference” will also be an ideal forum to discuss about living in active volcanoes (from a favorable perspective) since the short-term hazards posed by volcanoes are strongly balanced by benefits of volcanism over geologic time (volcano tourism, geothermal energy, etc.).
Field Trips
A scientific excursion isplanned to Fogo Island from 20th to 22nd of November:Two days prior-conference field trip to visit several major volcanological features of Fogo Island.

How to get to Cabo Verde
Daily flights to Cabo Verde are available from the international airport of Lisbon (Portugal) which is situated only 2-4 hours from most European cities and major airports. In addition, weekly BINTER flights (Tuesday and Friday) to Cabo Verde from the international airport of Las Palmas in Gran Canarias (Canary Islands, Spain).
Conference Venue
The conference will be held at Campus of Palmarejo which is located at Praia (Cabo Verde). Praia offers several hotels and apartments that allow welcoming the conference participants. Shuttle bus from the Hotel to the Conference Venue will be provided (free of charge) by the organization for the conference participants.
